The Department of Veterans Affairs wants to build a 5 million, 125,000-square-foot medical center with 1,000 parking spaces in the Ewa area that would take some pressure off Tripler Army Medical Center and provide outpatient primary care and mental health services for veterans as well as treatment for active-duty Army, Navy and Coast Guard and their families.

Four city park labor supervisors and eight prison inmates were arrested Thursday after allegedly trying to sneak crystal methamphetamine, an “ice” pipe and tobacco onto the grounds of the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

Recruitment continues to be a challenge for the Honolulu Police Department.
Police Chief Louis Kealoha told the City Council Budget Committee last week that out of 2,143 officer positions, HPD had 198 vacancies but hopes to fill 89 of those with recruits now in training.

A physician’s dining room at the Pali Momi Medical Center has been converted into a waiting room for patients. A corridor at Wahiawa General Hospital and a consultation room for the Straub Clinic & Hospital’s emergency services section have both become triage areas for incoming patients.
